Happy fall, ya’ll! We’ve got a sweet little line up for you this week from a freaky-fun Family Date Night, to THE Thanksgiving recipe you absolutely need to make this year, weather you are a host or guest! You know what to do!
Family Date night idea: Scary Movie (family friendly!) Night with themed crafts and snacks. Here are our top five picks:
“Hocus Pocus” This one comes on often throughout October and is available on Netflix DVD, but not streaming. For a craft, we will make witch hats. For snack, we will have “Witches Brew” which is green colored Hi-C fruit punch with dry ice to make the smoke effect. You can get dry ice by the pound at most grocery stores. Remember to handle it with gloves!
“Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” This one is available for streaming on Netflix if you are a subscriber. For a craft, painting the movie cover or cutting it out of construction paper is fun. For snacks -a family favorite- white chocolate dipped caramel apples!
“Casper” Check your local listings for this movie. For a craft, mix some cheap-o shaving cream with a little Elmer’s glue. Let the kids form a ghost on a piece of construction paper. When it dries they can draw or glue eyes to it. For a super easy and healthy snack, the popular ghost banana with mini chocolate chips for eyes.
“Addams Family” This movie is also available on Netflix streaming if you have an account. With this one, the craft is just to trace your hands and cut them out. For snack, a popcorn stuffed kitchen glove with candy for the finger nails!
“Corpse Bride”– Available with Netflix DVD but not streaming. It is a part of the line up on the ABC 19 days of Halloween list. For a craft, use cotton swabs to form skeletons, by gluing them to a piece of black construction paper. For snack, stack up a few white chocolate covered mini pretzel twists and put a large marshmallow on top. You can use frosting or a cake writer to make a face on the marshmallow.

BONUS: Make your own smartphone projector with this $3 hack; find a movie to watch on Netflix, and presto!
The only thing that beats the projector-hack is the HUGE blow up screen monthly movie night at the pool, which brings us to:
And you definitely don’t want to miss this one- we’ll be showing Maleficent on an even BIGGER screen than we usually do! Free popcorn and hot chocolate like we normally do! Just bring your blankets and chairs, whatever you need to make yourself comfortable. See you at dark!
